Trimming Miniature Conifers

I have several miniature conifers underneath a window, which have now reached the window sills. How can I trim them down slightly, without the tops of them going brown and while keeping them looking natural? Thanks.

For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.you should trim them late september then they wont go brown at all..you could also clip them into shape at this time,,,they wont grow much between now and september so i would just leave them,,if you are desperate to cut the tops off do it in march before we hopefully get some warm weather,,its only if you do it may to august you run the risk of them frizzling in the sun,,
