My poor, mortified, cleaning lady has managed to destroy a silk cami, and half of it is now welded to the bottom of the iron.
Any ideas as to how I get it off please?

I'd buy a new iron craft and sack the cleaning lady!

If it'd had been synthetic then I would have recommended nail varnish remover.

You could try household ammonia, toothpaste or a paste made of baking soda and lemon juice. Good luck.
if you re heat the iron and run it over an old piece of cloth will some come off

or a brillo pad ?
Question Author
pmsl @ brillo pad. I think I'll re-heat it and try it on a rough tea towel first, if that's no good I'll try the cold sponge option.
product called 'Iron Cleaner' manufactured by Vilene is reasonable

I got all ready to try these wonderful methods..............picked the iron up and pulled.......the whole sheet of fabric came away in one pull.
