Disposal of small batteries
21 Answers
How should we dispose of small batteries - such a the AA and AAA sizes and others used in toys, torches, radios, clocks, remote controls etc? It's hardly realistic to expect one to travel miles to a recycling centre to dispose of maybe just a handful of small batteries. I guess that most get chucked in the dustbin. Does anyone have an answer to this or know of a convenient local disposal arrangement that might be copied in other places?

the new rules passed by the European Union which mean that as of February 2010 shops must have battery recycling bins for residents to use if they sell the equivalent of 1 pack a day.

any shop that sells batteries has to provide a redycle facility under the new law that came in feb 1st, i had one of the new government LA inspectors in only tesyerday and they did a spot check and also asked me some test questions on the wei regulations packaging notices and also whether i knew where to send people to dispose of lartger batteries (local refuse site), I passed too, first time I've had to do it and actually first time the store has had the visit!!!
We keep our odds and ends that can't go out for the recycling collection in a separate bin - light bulbs, bits of metal, small dead electric equipment, batteries, all go in there - then when it's full we take it to the tip. Our Tescos has a battery bin near the exit door (would make more sense near the entrance then you could drop the stuff as you go in!)
dothawkes31, I don`t wish to be rude, honest, but why don`t you check your spelling when you post letters? I`m sure you know there is a box in the google bar which has ABC/Check button that soon puts words right, if you bother to look. So many AB`s don`t realise this. Sorry if I upset anyone, really.
