Our toilet seat is so wonky it's becoming a fearful exercise to stay on the damn thing!

The wobble seems to be located in the metal bar that connects the seat and lid.

I have tiightened up the wingnuts that secure the seat to the bowl, so it's not that.

Is there a repair - or is it time to replace?

If it hasn't been corrected by tightening up the wingnuts then it seems time to replace.
go on a diet!
Replace I'd say.

In my experience the best toilet seat I got what from Ikea....
Speaking from past experience, its time to replace.
It's likely the big washers under the wingnuts are made of nylon, which will simply skid about on the pan's glazed finish. (Why the heck manufacturers think they're a good idea, I've never understood). Try your local plumbing outlet for rubber washers instead. They won't slip about once the wingnuts are tightened.
Our loo at work was like that but they recently replaced the whole seat unit. It was a health & safety hazard, you'd sit on it and go shooting off to one side!
Hi boxy - sounds dangerous!
Hi lardy, all well with you? It needed - er - careful positioning!
I am so glad you type well boxy. In answer to your q andy it seems the time has to come to replace. With modern washers and plastic wingnuts these days they don't seem to be made to last as long as they did
I'm fine thank you boxy. Nice avatar.
Arr ttfn, those were the days, ceramic cisterns and the pull chain!
Thank you lardy, that is Rover.
And what is wrong with an earth toilet - served me well over the decades (;-))
ttfn, clearly a fan of Dick Strawbridge then? Never had one of those but I remember the days of cut-up newspapers....
Rover! Love it! Great name!
I think I'm a dog.....

Try this Andy - works a treat.
excuse us andy - my aunt who lived on a private estate in the country had the most wonderful earth loo up the garden in a wooden hut - nice wide gap at the top and bottom of the doort to assist with air conditioning. She had no electricity or gas and used a range to cook on and oil lamps. The water came from a handpump in the scullery across the yard from the ever-open kitchen door and swallows would build their nest just inside her kitchen. As young children we would love to visit and see the young swallows poking their heads out of the nest built in the angle between the ceiling and the wall. She bought a round oak dining table to seat 12 at the local sales for 10 bob and had a dealer offer her a fortune for it, but she kept it. A real country woman - used to shoot pheasants and rabbits from the cottage bedroom window as they loitered in the field in front of her house - looking down to the Thames. Magical memories
Eveningn ttfn - how art thou?
Briiliant ttfn, a lovely picture!
