I have just moved into an appartment which overlooks a very busy pub & 2 busy roads. I'm struggling to sleep at night because of the noise! What can i do to make my bedroom window soundproof? I've just brought some pieces of polystyrene home which i've taped togeather & placed in my window just to see if it helps. Anyone any other ideas please? Thanks
how long is 'just' I moved into a flat onto a main road from being at my parents quiet house. First few nights I slept in the hall as I couldnt sleep, but after a while I got used to it.
A couple of months forgetmenot & no way will i get used to it as it's lots of noises ie:
Pub music/bands, smokers, taxis, cars playing boom, boom music the list goes on!!!!!
You could double glaze. I believe to insulate sound you need a larger gap between the panes than you do to insulate for heat. Try a search on the Internet for detailed info.
In which case secondary glazing may not cost to much, and if you repair any installation damage you may be able to take it when you go. Get landlord's permission first though, or you may be limited in what you can do.
You could try a cooling fan as these make a noise that masks things like you are experiencing. Sounds strange but it worked for someone I knew. I use earplugs myself, they reduce noise by 32 decibels!
