If I have medium brown cowboy boots and this shoe cream is dark brown, can i use it to darken the boots and cover up marks where the polish has been scratched?
But can i not use it if it looks as if its gone off. There's a litle bit off liquid, but if cream cheese was like that my family and I would jsut scrape away any mould and liquid and use the rest, can I do that with this?
Shoe polish contains waxes and other ingredients that shoe cream does not. Shoe cream is more of a dye containg leather conditioner so won't produce the luster and shine of the polish. Probably better than shoe polish in most cases. Just use a utensil to stir up the long unused shoe cream... it'll be just fine.
Here in the western U.S., we use an undyed version of shoe cream for treating leather goods, such as the tops of our well worn boots, horse halters, bridles and saddles...
Further, the shoe cream will work better and give a more even color if you'll first treat the boots with a leather cleaner to remove most of the previously applied polish waxes...
aahhh thanks, it doesn't matter, I can uae it then, I don't particularly want them to be shiny and was going to think of ways of using polish without making it shiny tbh.
Mollykins I dont know if you have gone ahead yet but a word of warning . If you are using a darker cream it will darken off your boots a little but it will darken the scratches even more so they will be even more visible. If you want to darken them I would buy a leather dye.
