We've only been here a short while and out front we have a couple of quite nice privets (I think) they're quite mature and they flower tiny white flowers, my problem is they're infested with 'Hover Fly's' which also make their way into the house too. Although not as dirty as a house fly they nontheless are a nuisance,
Is there a spray to use? or something I can use to distract them? I don't want to cut the bushes down as they are quite attractive really.
Hoverflys aren't dirty like blowflies, bluebottles etc so they won't do you any harm. They are very good in a garden where they eat aphids, thrips and leafhoppers when they are in their larval stage and as adults they mainly eat nectar and pollen
There are quite a few articles on the web (just Google Getting Rid of Hoverflies).

Someone says they are not harmful although i can see they are a real nuisance
