am i allowed to do this???
If you own it, check the title register at the Land Registry to understand the 'rules' (convenent) by which your neighbour is permitted access via your garden. It is unlikely to merely be for putting bins out.
If you rent, ask your landlord, housing association or local authority landlord.
Your house deeds should state whether your neighbour has 'right of way', or 'right of access'. If it's the first, there's not much you can do, they're granted complete freedom of movement - so you can't lock the gate. If it's 'right of access', it ought to state for what purpose, e.g. window cleaning, maintenance of their property, seeing to their drains and services, etc. Under 'right of access' you are normally at liberty, not to prevent access, but to permit it by appointment only!

Don't you ever think about how your neighbour feels about begging to gain acess to their own back garden. we have this problem with our neighbour we had live here for 22 years when he moved in and caused a lot of bad feeling without even speaking to us we have to get to our garden with things other than bins
