Fan in fan oven making grinding noise.
7 Answers
I have a Tecnik built-under fan oven. Recently the fan has started making grinding noises which makes me think it has either come a bit loose or maybe the brushes in the motor need replacing.
I have Googled to see if there is a simple explanation and fix option but to no avail. All the repair websites seem to concentrate on the fan element.
Any clues as to what the simplest way is to fix the problem without having to go to the expense of buying a new oven?

This seems quite a common problem and all an repairman will say is replace the fan & element at a cost of around £90 only for the same to happen again a year later. When I had this issue and found that removing the fan (which can easily be done quite easily) and filing the blades down by about 2-3mm did the trick. It seems quite a drastic thing to do but as I wasn't able to physically able to move the element without taking the oven to pieces I thought reducing the length of the fan blades was the lesser of the two evils. Also meant I didn't need to buy a new fan or element. Whole job took around 45 mins - 1 hour.
