I don't know how to get rid of silverfish, but I have heard that if you've got them it means there may be some damp somewhere close because that's where they like to live. There probably are remedies around if you look in DIY/hardware shops.

My parents lived in an old stone cottage and they used to get silverfish all the time, but their house wasn't damp because it had just had a new dampcourse installed, although it had been empty for some time prior to that. I guess the silverfish lived in the walls between the stones and got into the house through tiny gaps in the plaster, etc. My parents sealed the room they had the silverfish problem in by filling all tiny gaps around skirting boards, etc before redecorating, installed central heating and they haven't had a problem since. Hope that helps.

As has been said they are a sign of damp we once had a small problem with these and quite by accident I found a way of getting rid of some of them,(not a nice way admittedly) but a Post It note fell off a cupboard in the kitchen onto the floor and in the morning there were a good few stuck to it. Also I would turn the light out in the room affected, they would then come out, I come in turn the light on, frighten the **** out of them and then tread on them (I am a nice person honest!), but I would try and cure the damp problem first.
