Carpet care

How often should we professionally clean our new carpets to make it last longer?  How long on average should new carpet normally last? We spent a lot to get this carpet as we wanted it to be good quality.  Also, will the prints made on the carpet by furniture,beds,TV,sofa etc leave when we take them off after some years? Is there something that could protect carpets from furniture and such?

We have our cream living room carpet professionally cleaned every year. We have 3 children and also have a no shoes rule which no one seems to have a problem with. We only have a small hallway but even so I can't imagine the carpet looking as cream as it still does if everyone marched through with shoes on. We paid a lot of money for it as I have seen far to many cheap carpet mistakes in the past so I don't mind a bit of work to keep it looking good.

We recently had a new sofa and the foot marks from our old one disappeared once the carpet was cleaned but they were still slightly visible even after a few months.

 

A really good quality carpet should with care last for many years. I also hoover every day but with 3 children I have to really.

Remember that cleaning your carpets (whether professionally or doing it yourself) will remove any stain prevention treatment in it so always ask the professional cleaners to apply a new treatment after cleaning. With regard to marks left on the carpet by furniture, I�ve found the old trick of melting an ice cube on the spot to work.  If you then go over the spot with the nozzle part of your hoover, going over the spot backwards and forwards very quickly, this brings the tufts back up.

Apparently if you leave an ice cube to melt on the 'prints' caused by the furniture they will disappear
