Just put a pan of baking apples, sugar and currants on to simmer and guess what......I forgot about it and now the pan is black and the contents are in the bin!! Anyone got any ideas (apart from scrubbing) to get it off? Thanks

Boil water and a little soap suds in it.
Mr muscle oven cleaner.
Once heard the best way was to fill with washing up liquid and boiling water, leave for two days, then bin it while no one is looking and get another one.
Is it stainless steel?

Washing powder and put on to the boil. Then use a brillo pad.

PipinHill - sounds a good idea :)
I'll soak it overnight with Persil!
Thanks everyone x
simmer cola in it for for 20 minutes then allow to cool and clean as normal. or, soak with biological washing powder in warm water
concur with pip - Bin and buy another.. note to (your)self.. order take out.. saves on washing up et al..
Is it enamel or metal? If it's metal then wire wool or salt and lemon juice'll work too.
Agree with KarenM, you need to tell us what the pan is made of.
boil up as much rhubarb as possible then use a scouring pad and it will come off like magic x
biological detergent ariel or similar in water bring to boil leave overnight and use a normal scourer...may need to repeat a couple of times
A friend once told me when she did this, her Mum told her to put it in the garden and the fairies would clean it for her. She did this quite often with good results until one day she found out that it was actually slugs eating all the burnt bits that 'cleaned' the pan and not the fairies! Still can't believe she fell for that one lol.
Any slug that can clean burnt pans qualifies as a fairy in my book.
When I saw the first part of your question I thought "apart from...." was going to be followed by "...putting it in the bin too"
How about putting it in soak and waiting for OH to scrub it clean.
Oh dear ! Buy one of those Lakeland Timers on a chord and hang it round your neck so that next time you don't get distracted.
If I have a burnt pan I put neat fairy liquid into the still warm pan (it will foam a bit) then place some water into the pan and bring it to the boil and simmer for a little while and most of the burnt 'stuff' comes off.
soak with salt.
