Wood turner

I think its a bit of a long shot, but can any ABER put me in touch with a wood turner in the north west who could make me some 8 inch wheels, nowt fancy.

Shame it's not the South East - my Dad is a professional wood turner.

Here is a list of uk woodturning blank suppliers - if there is one near you, why not ask them if they can put you in touch with somebody. Although often people who work in own theses business's are wood turners themselves.

Suggestion: after cutting them out (roughly) with the jigsaw, find their centres, drill them and mount them one by one on an angle grinder using a coarse sanding block to get them perfectly round and smooth. (keep the speed lowish - so they don't split and fly off !)

Answerprancer - do not think it's safe advice to use an angle grinder for an application it's not been designed for - there will be no guarding, no speed control and good potential for serious injury IMO

Thanks for all your help,should get sorted from that list Tonyv, i think AP'S solution a bit drastic for an boy like myself, but could try it with a drill.

Maybe I should have suggested a variable speed angle-grinder with the speed set low (about 1000rpm). You might be able to do it using a cordless drill but you'd have to drill a hole and put a long bolt through it with two nuts/washers either side of the hole. The drill would have to be held tight/horizontal at the edge of a bench to do this. Rotation speed would be much lower though.

answerprancer - Appreciate you know what you are doing, I just think it's a bit unsafe to recommend a method when I / we don't know owdhamers ability / exprience or what type of wood he will be using. If it were me I would probably opt for the drill finishing method, just drilling the hole first and using and that to mark out circle.
I just know of someone who put an circular saw blade in an angle grinder to chop of a tree stump. Unfortunatley that was the last job he attemped RIP. was'nt having a go
