Is it best to use an agent we looked at one and it was £1500 for two people or is it easy enough to do it yourself. TIA

If you have done nothing so far the best place to start is the Australian Embassy.
^^^^^^^

maybe that should be Consulate
and they will give you a wallaby burger a day while you are resident in there.
Australian immigration laws are very strict. I would check that you qualify financially before you go too far.
They work on a points system and you have to qualify for enough points to be able to get a visa.

(hey I qualify :) )
i don't know how old you are but 1500 is cheap! my mum's friends are going over on a parent visa and it's so far taken 18 months and they had to pay £25000 EACH
Like I said........
Well Aussie is out for me as I am not eligible!

Beware of any other sites, which might want you to part with money.

Those so-called agents are rip-offs. Just inquire yourself as below. If you qualify, it is fairly straight forward. You can find accommodation in AU on the Net or go to a motel when you arrive and look for rentals. Stay away from the very small villages/settlements for a start, it may be too much of a culture shock.
Some of the older districts in the larger cities have that more 'familiar' feeling.

They have a good health and retirement scheme and if you're prepared to put in a good day's craft, you'll live a comfortable life. Many residential parts have mini community groups; street BBQs and babysitting rosters, shopping for the sick etc.

Although there will be a cost for some visas even if you dont go through an agent.

My daughter and her boyfriend (both 25) have just gone for a years stay using a temporary work visa. This cost them only a small amount (cant remember exact cost).

They can of course only stay for a year, but can work while they are there.

They are staying in Perth and both found work easily.
On arrival you'll be asked if you have a criminal record. Bring a smile to the immigration official's face by answering, ''Don't tell me that's still an entry requirement!''. ;-)
>Bring a smile to the immigration official's face

Yes I am sure they have never heard that one before.

Not sure they will "smile"
