wireless connection not showing

I have new laptop with windows 7. we have a wireless router from main computer in the house. i can not get the name of the network in the connections list (when you try to connect) i have typed in manually and still not showing. what can i do? please help

I would have answered this earlier, but I've been stuck in a loop following trimeresurus's links for the last half hour :)

Check for a wireless switch on the laptop, it may be a physical switch or it may be a combination of pressing the Fn key and one of the F keys along the top of the keyboard. your quicktart guide (or similar) will tell you precisely where it it.
