What would be the most efficient method of finding the telephone numbers of all of the same sort of retailers in the UK (for example, if I wanted to contact all the florists that there are). This particular retail sector doesn't have a trade association. Is there a nationwide, searchable site or would you have to use the BT phonebook and do each section of the UK? Hope that makes sense, thanks.

You can rent a list from a list broker by SIC code - Standard Industry Classification - there will be one for florists.

Indeed, the Yellow Pages database is one of the main sources; they may deal direct I can't recall - ask them or check yell.com
Yell.com lets you search the whole of the UK by a specific Yellow Pages category (e.g. "Cookers, Stoves & Ovens - Retail & Suppliers":
