At the moment I am working abroad in Albania and have brought my car with me. When I told my insurers, they cancelled my policy as they said I was not resident in the UK anymore (even though I'm only here for a year).
This is fair enough as I only pay 70 pounds a year here for insurance.
I read on the dvla website that I still need to keep my car taxed and insured in the UK. This is because I will not be exporting the car for more than 12 months.
Does anybody know the exact rules on this? Can I get in trouble as my car is now 'uninsured'?
Wish I could help you, but have never driven in Albania. Worked there in 2002 (Berat and Tirana) and going back for a holiday in September. Fascinating country, hope you get things sorted out - bl***y red tape!
