Copying from Sky

I have had a dvd player recorder for a few months now and nomally just use it for playing, Have been trying to copy a 30min Sky programme, following all the instructions for Sky and recorder but no joy.
With copy set on sky and recorder at recording, with the visual twirl on sky and the recording light flashing on screen nothing records. What am I not doing

Does the signal from the Sky box go into the DVD recorder?

The way mine is set up I have the Sky box connected to the DVD recorder via a Scart lead, then another scart lead from the DVD recorder to the TV.

So the Sky signal effectively is going THROUGH the DVD recorder.

You then have to set the DVD channel onto the one for the scart socket (mine is called A2) so when you record onto the DVD it is recording what is going through the DVD recorder.
