Your Sky+ box is really two completely separate devices. One half has a tuner which sends a signal to your TV set. The other half has another tuner, which sends the signal to the recording device.

Both tuners need separate feeds from your dish's (dual/quad) LNB. It seems that one of them (which feeds a signal to your TV) has a proper connection from the LNB,while the other (which feeds a signal to the recorder) isn't recognising that it has a proper input signal.

You should have TWO cables feeding into your Sky+ box. Check that they're BOTH plugged in properly. If they are, report your problem to Sky.

My Sky+ would not record recently and I noticed that the signal bars were low in the Settings section. I had to go out and move my dish a little until the signal improved and all worked fine after that.
This happened to me the other day and I just switched it all off for a couple of minutes and it was OK when I switched it back on. Worth a try.

Thanks everyone. I will investigate and report back. Tried the switching on and off (that was my first thought) but didn't work.
Swap the two incoming RF (sat) cables over and try skipping through all channels .. Is picture/sound ok?
Go into menu setup and check signal strength (BEFORE and AFTER you try swapping cables around) and quality and report back.

Not brilliantly techically minded but fiddled around with the cables on the back and checked the settings and voila..it worked!!! Thanks for all your help folks.
