Adding up hours in Excel?

I am using Excel 2003. How can I work out the total between two times. For example if I put in 09:00-13:30, what function can I use to work out that the total hours is 4.5, or can this be done?

Excel stores times internally as a fraction between 0 and 1 with 0 being 00:00 and 24:00 being 1 , so 12:15 is stored as 0.510416666666667, multiplying by 24 makes the fraction back into a proper value in hrs, so....

0.510416666666667 * 24 = 12.25 (or 12hrs and one quarter of an hr)

Oh, I get that now. Still finding it hard to work at though. Don't always seem to get the same answers.

things to watch out for are...

You must use 24hr time
You must use : as a separator
Cells you enter the time in should be formatted hh:mm:ss
Cells with results that are likely to go over 24hrs must be formatted [h]:mm:ss

Personally I would use a DateTime format for the input and the DateAdd function.
