it's a diary on the internet. www.livejournal.com is one of the most common ones, where you can add friends so that you can see all their entries together on a page, and you can filter your posts as to who sees them...

a great way to kill time or catch up after a holiday.

The term actually derives from "weblog", and a blog is invariably a teenager-driven diary type thing populated with bad poetry and pictures of adorable kittens. And white text on a black background.

generally, yes, but not invariably. mine consists of random comments about my day. it's a kitten- and angst-free zone.

One of the best out there is the Policeman's Blog at http://coppersblog.blogspot.com/ . I highly recommend reading it from time to time.
