I have started using a programme for converting video files ,I use Format Factory,I know how to change various files to AVI now I need to change from AVI to DVD and I am confused as to which programme is DVD ,there are so many ie MPG,VOB, FLV and the list goes on .

Format Factory will convert files from one format to another ( as you've found out!) but will not write a file to a DVD.
You need a DVD writer program such as "DVD Flick" or "FREE Video to DVD".
You can Google for both but I prefer the latter program.
You could also use the FREE "Any Video Converter".
