Q. What's the connection between the origignal 'Randall & Hopkirk (Deceased)' and Pink Floyd? A. Nigel Pratt, who plays bass when Floyd perform live, is the son of the late Mike Pratt, who played Geoff Randall in the series. Oh, and yes, Mike Pratt did co-write Tommy Steele's hit 'The Little White Bull' and Kenneth Cope who played Marty Hopkirk is in 'Brookside', before any other clever so-and-so's beat you to it!
for starters ...this is not physically possible to do...but if you could..... you have a piece of paer that is 1000th of an inch thick and you fold it in half 50 times. How thick would the "wad" of paper be? ... Just work it out. The answer is bloody ridiculous - but - nobody ever believes you. Go on... the first fold makes it 2/1000th inch. the second makes it 4/100th of an inch. the 3rd makes it 8/1000th inch and so on.By the 10th fold the paper is 1.024 inches thick. Carry on...
the answer by the way is 17,769,884 MILES thick
But following on from that, it's impossible to fold a piece of paper more than 7 times, no matter how big or thin the paper is. That's quite an interesting fact, I think...
depends on the friends. If you want a damn good argument then Schrodingers cat is normally a good one. Or that a footprint on Utah desert crust may take 600 years to repair itself. Or that antarctic right whales have been observed mating in mid air.....

You see... mine would have to be that Bohemian Rhapsody - a song without its title in its lyrics, was knocked off the top spot by Abba's 'Mamma Mia' which does have its song title... in Queen's lyrics! spooky.
regarding the paper folding....it only works if you fold the paper in halves...

Having discussed a few of the above in the pub we also happened across the fact that if you take a step towards the bar and every step after that is half the distance you have just taken you will never actually reach the bar. (I explained that quite badly, the aforementioned discussion in the pub involved a lot of drinking aswell!). Of course, it does depend on how big your first step is.....or rather, how far away from the bar you are to start with. have confused myself now - sorry!
It is estimated that there are about 2 million 2-foot toads in Lake Titicaka in South America. This is true. Nobody will buy you a drink for this one though, and it won't get you a date. So forget I told you.
1995 Wembley the result was 1-nil
Having managed a Pub for six years, I grew tired of people saying 'how long is a piece of string?'. So, I trudged off to the Hardware Shop across the road and asked for a piece of string. Well, they stocked a variety of 'string'. I looked at the basic no nonsense string we'll all familiar with and checked its length. Well, it was 100 metres in length. I also checked the other balls of string and, they too were 100 metres in length!. The proprietor of the hardware shop told me that originally, string was sold by the weight. This was the case for much of his stock i.e. nails and screws. So, with my new found information, the next time I heard someone say 'how long is a piece of string', I told them 10 ounces !!
How many times have we heard people say "we don't want to re-invent the wheel"?. I wonder how the wheel designers in the automotive industry feel about this.
The length of a ANY piece of string can be calculated with the following formula:- length = 2 x (the distance from the middle to one end.)
