Nissan Micra boot locking.unlocking problems

Just frixed my Nissan Micra faulty boot switch for £1. Nissan wanted £140.

I also have experienced this problem.
In the end it was a broken wire.
From the rear of the vehicle, right hand side, top near the hinge, unwrap the loom and check that there are no breaks in the loom.
There was a clean break in on wire and the other had the insulation worn away. I joined and re-insulated and probelm solved!

I had the same issue with my girlfiends 03 Micra. The garage kept 'repairing' for about £120 a time, saying they were replacing the switch mech etc. It has recently gone again, so I had a look myself.

I followed what 'needawin' said. GREAT STEPS by the way. However, the boot wouldn't open when I followed this step:

"Now get a small screwdriver and insert it into the female side of the white plug ( the side that is not going to the boot handle)"

After thinking for a while, and looking around, I came to the conclusion that there doesn't seem to be power. So I unclipped all the wiring in the boot section, and found it all led to the top where the boot hinges to the car. I opened the boot manually, by moving the little white looking clip on the lock mech from inside the car. When opened, stand facing the opened boot, and look at the top right (where the boot hinges to the car). There is a rubber wire cover. I pulled this back, and low and behold wires were loose.

I reconnected them and "voila", the switch opened.

It looked like this was a problem previously, and some mechanic had tried to solder back the wires, but they had come loose again.

Sorry for the long winded explanation, but I thought I would put this information here so that if others try 'needawins' steps and it doesn't work, then there is still hope before the garages start to rip you off again!!!

Thanks for the detail, needawin, I'll have a go at self repair at the weekend on my locked Micra boot.

We were having the same problem with the boot, and it finally locked and wouldn't open, was quoted £150 from Nissan for the lock, but hubby paid £1.49 from Maplins - and result. Am well pleased, I was impressed with the details you gave, which gave us the confidence to have a go. Thank you. Could say you should sell the information, (now we've done ours)!!

Same problem with Micra from 2004. I didn't have immediate access to a replacement so I first followed previous instructions to remove switch housing from car and then removed the old switch. I cleaned off the old soft external sealant, opened the switch up i.e. splitting it by very carefully lifting the side plastic catches which has to be done with caution so as not to break them After opening I dried the switch assembly complete with wires in a fan oven at around 80 degrees C for about two hours. When cool I reassembled the switch in reverse order using a small amount of silicon sealant. I then reassembled the switch housing and refitted to car. Result, works perfectly and I hope continues to work.

The switch from Maplin is now £1.49 from Nissan it is £47
I have just replaced the boot switch on my daughters 05 reg micra.
Not a bad saving for 1 hours work which would have been quicker if I had my tools which now have taken up residence at my sons new house.

Just to add, in the 05 micra there is no black sticky stuff so I took the old switch apart and cut out the actual micro switch. Then I made a square cutout where the micro switch was to accommodate the new switch. The two halves of the old switch casing then clip back together, so no need for super glue this time.

Needawin....Followed your instructions to the letter! Got a new switch from Maplins £1.49, started it at 11:10am, finished at 12:16. WORKS A TREAT!!! :-) Nice one!

Thanks needawin. worked great.
One thing would add is although maplins jb00a switch fits (after burrowing out the old switch and making a bigger hole to accommodate new switch), it is quite long and the connectors are right against the boot handle when bolted together.
