Most modern taps are retained by a screw below the sink surface. Get a torch and a mirror and check the type of fixing you've got.

You'll need to torn the water off if you decide to attempt the change. When I did mine I included a pair of quarter turn stop valves on the riser pipes for ease of fitting and future use.

Because of the many different types of faucets, shut-off valves, sprayer hoses, etc., this is a difficult question to address, so check here for some good advice... Good luck!
