Hi, I have a modern cistern, not with push down flushing handle, but a long flush/ short flush button on top (where you would normally lift the lid off to get to ballcock etc) . How do I get into this contraption please? as I cannot lift the lid off. Thanks

If it has two buttons (one inside the other) you normally push the big one down which enables you to lever the little button out with a screwdriver, then you can use the hole the little button leaves to pop the big button out with a screwdriver which will expose a screw underneath the buttons, undo that and the whole lot should come apart.
