auctioneeers - over rolling their rrrs?
8 Answers
is there a reason for this?
why do so many of them do this?
it kind of makes it hard to understand them, and is obviously unnatural.
so is there a point to it?
thanks

its sort of when they do that high speed talking thing
i wondered if it was somehow supposed to make it clearer perhaps - so that a soft r cant get lost and be confused.
i cant understand it myself but for experience auction goers who are used to it, perhaps it helps?

Don't understand, unless you mean as in the video link. Antiques auctioneers in the British houses don't do it. Did once attend a good picture sale in Washington D.C. where one did . He went so fast and unintelligibly that he had to tell me that I'd just bid against myself, and already had the lot !
