Ibiza - Malta

Ive received a postcard from my grandchildren holidaying in Ibiza, but the postmark on the card is Malta. Is this usual?

Both in the Med, would there be a central sorting office? Wouldn't think so but how else unless your grand kids are confused :-)

Over 700 miles via a totally different country is quite a re-direct.

Is it an Ibiza post card or a Malta one? because the first thing I thought (no offence meant) is you're mistaken about where they've gone.

Chuck, it's be easy enough for a card to be mislaid and put into a bag of mail for Malta. When they found it, the Maltese PO would probably just postmark it and send it - even if they bothered to notice the stamp wasn't their own.

They were definitely in Ibiza, the picture on the postcard is Portinatx, Ibiza.

did you know they were going to Ibiza? They could always have sent a postcard from Malta that didn't depict Malta.

Yes, I knew they were going to Ibiza, and they definitely went there, I have spoken to their mother since they came home.

I work in a British Post Office and we had a problem with people sending stuff to South Australia without writing Australia at the bottom. The thing is that with international mail only the last line is looked at, so it can end up in the wrong country quite easily. With the South Australia thing the post was ending up in South Africa, who very kindly sent it on, but I'm sure that it would have a South African postmark on it somewhere.
