I am trying to send a long email to my sister in Spain. Every time I try my computer refuses and says the connection to SMTP server smtp.blueyonder.co.uk has timed out and suggests I try again. I have tried several times till I am practically screaming at the damn thing but no luck. I tried with a shorter letter but got the same answer. This has happened before but it righted itself - this time it is refusing. Any suggestions anyone, please?

Bypass the SMTP server by using Virgin Media's webmail service for Blueyonder accounts. Simply enter your email address and password at the top right here, and click 'login':

Go with Chris' route, it's the best & easiest solution for the present, it could be an issue with the weather at present.

Thanks Chris, I'll try that. As you know, I am hopeless with technology so I need something simple. I use it, but I haven't a clue how it works.
Can you not type the letter/email into a word document and simply attach it to the email and send?
Might the attachment cause the same problems though? - it's the server which is down, not the size of the document.
