If I buy an old iPhone on eBay can I use the SIM card from my Sony Ericsson Vivaz in it and stay on m same tariff/number or are they incompatible?

What model iPhone. They went to mini SIM cards from 4 onwards.

iPhones tend to be locked to a network - so make sure that whatever you buy is either 'jailbreaked' or locked to your current network.

You can get templates to cut a standard sized sim card down to micro-sim size - you need a stanley knife and a steady hand ...

an old 2g iphone takes a standard sim card
jailbreaking is easy if you google it and follow instructions
BUT i wouldn't buy and old iphone 2g !

you can contact your own network company and ask them to send you a smaller sim card saying its going to be used for i phone, we've done that with t-mobile about 16 months ago and got a simcard, only we had to pay about £6 for it.
