Gas Oven Hissing Loudly And Flames At Odd Angles.....is This Incurable?

I'd appreciate any advice on my gas cooker. The bottom oven has of late started to be very noisy when lit - loud hissing, almost roaring - and the whereas flames come out of the top of the long oblong thingy with little holes in, on one side flames are coming out sideways from beneath the rime of the thingy with holes in.

To a simpleton like me this all suggests the thingy has a hole in the wrong place and air is getting in.

Is this diagnosis reasonable - and is the situation fixable?

Thanks in advance.

Sounds like it may just have become dislodged from the seating underneath - in a similar way that a gas ring can if you knock it whilst cleaning around.

Try lifting the burner off, sweep away any crud underneath and replace it so that it 'settles' onto the assembly underneath.

SD, I never even knew you could lift the thingy off!
Will get down there with a torch and give it a go.
Older ovens did have fixed burners, but most recent ones have removable ones I think.

Ah yes, this makes sense SD. I've just been down there and this is a single sealed unit a bit like a tiny oblong garden planter, if that makes sense. The top is of one piece with the sides and woe is me, using torch, a mirror and a bamboo skewer I have located a hole in the welded seam just below the 'lip' at the back.

Does this spell the end? I've only had it 17 years.
Can't believe that parts aren't available. Try Googling "(make, model) spares". that'll help you find out for definite. You don't say whay colour the flame is. If it's yellow, I'd not use it until it's been fixed.

Good luck.

Yellow it is Seejay.
All the parts listed appear to be for hobs rather than ovens.
