Ok so someone pleaaaaaaaase tell my maths is wrong.

We appear to be using 200 units of electricity per day (we don't have any gas supply so all heating showed etc are electric)

My rate per unit is 0.92


Does this REALLY = £20 per day!!!!!!

I rang supplier and they said every number one yet is indeed a "unit"
Then I can only suggest you tell them you don't trust the reading and want the meter checked.

It's over half an hour since Tilly2 nipped out to the garage saying she'd be back in a couple of minutes. Maybe she has locked herself out of the house.
Eve, your meter reading is 987?
You're assuming that you've used that many units, but that is only if it was reading "0" when you moved in.

I'll bet it was reading 970 or something like that.

Hi builder those digit I gave were merely an example. The true reading was ; thurs 1311 today it is 1496. Making 185 on 24 hours.

Yeah I'm gonna get the supplier out here. Perhaps the metre is faulty? FYI - we have a 4 bedroom , electric only (no gas) with 2 electric showers and also underfloor heating (downstairs only) and wall heaters.
Ah, I see........... 185 units in 24 hours? Keep a note of that. Unless the whole street is using your supply, you must have a faulty meter.
Contact your supplier (the ones you pay the bill to). They'll send someone out to replace it :o)
Any chance your next door neighbours have tapped into your electricity for their cannabis farm?
I am pretty sure the meter has simply been misread and you are reading the digit that should be ignored after the decimal point - is it in a different colour?
If not, call them out but i think they charge if it turns out there is no fault.
Or just be as careful as you can with your consumption and wait until they next read the meter

Also ... Earlier in the week the entire street supply was off whilst they upgraded everyone's overhead lines. Our metre was turned off (as was everyone else's) could the work on the overhead lines have caused some sort of fault?
I hope Tilly's okay- she must be frozen out there undressed.

Ask your neighbours (but not the one with the cannabis farm) if they have had the same problem since the work was done

I'm back. It's nice to know people are concerned about me. Washed, dressed and kitchen tidied.
I have just been out again to read my meter.
One of the readings is 04771.82. (We have separate day and night tarrifs)

Ours is very feint. I have to put my glasses on to read it properly and it's sort of greyish. If the sun's shining on it you can't see it at all.

evedawn, is the last digit on your meter coloured red ? If so it may only be one tenth of a unit.
Do you have storage heaters........if so how many and power ratings please (it may be on the side) One of my clients has an all electric property with six bedrooms and five reception rooms....25 heaters on a 3 phase system and he consumes 450 kwh per day in the winter.
If the last digit is in tenths you will see it ticking over quite quickly when a heating appliance is on.
