If A Black Person Has A Go At Me, How Shall I React So I Don't Appear Racialist?

The reason I asked this was my Aunt lives in a care home and I criticised the care team because they got her up late at 10.20am, not for the first time. The black supervisor had a right go at me and I responded. This is typical of their nature. So am I racist because I reacted in kind? I try to be fair to all but it doesn't always work.

Rule one when a person has a right go at you in those circs, is to maintain the moral high ground and NOT respond!

It shouldn't matter what colour or size or attitude, you complain to the home manager about the standard of care delivered by their member of staff - their ethnicity is irrelevant.
BigB

as has been said already; focus on the standards of professional care and behaviour

you need to be objective. It seems you are hampered in this by a pre-existing agenda you have related to black people in general

/I, like many in this country over the years, have tried to get on with all races and like anyone else out there, I am prepared to meet anyone half way. I must say there is a difference in nature in some at times and I find it a little unfriendly./

You need to put those prejudices to one side and focus on what standards of care and behaviour should be delivered
The use of the word 'black' before supervisor indicates that it is an issue for you.
You need to ask why they got her up late, it could just be that they were understaffed that day. Skin colour has nothing to do with it .
ladybirder how do you know he wasnt serious ? well said mattk , if this carer is being disrespectful she needs to be told but i just dont see what her colour has to do with it, when she was having a go at you did she say anything about your colour ?
the mere fact that you mention the person's colour does, in my opinion, mean that's a issue with you.
''You would react without reference to their colour, historic homeland or that funny food that they all eat.

Jesus.''

That's just obviously sarcastic Tezmand.
exactly rsvp
sarcastic with a hint of racism me thinks sharingan
He sounded as if he was just taking the pee, tez
I would strongly disagree, I think it's exactly the opposite Tezmand. Douglas was being sarcastic and voiced it by making a statement which the OP was likely to think ' funny food'. The sarcasm was clearly implied by his single final sentence 'Jesus' and the fact he had previously implied it was not the done thing to mentin race, colour etc.
I can't see how anyone could see that post as racist.
to me its like being served in a shop and saying how do i say thankyou to the sales assistant cos she black ; durr you just say thankyou . we are all human beings some nice some NOT regardless of colour, theres only one world and one life we need to live it the best we can
can anyone tell me what is the FUNNY food he refers to

I think we allagree with that Tezmand, but you've implied that you think Douglas is racist which I'm pretty damned sure he isn't, certainly not from that post.
It's sarcasm Tez. It's like me saying to a racist ' Oh yeah those darkies, they all look alike don't they?'. That is not my thought at all, but how I percieve the racist thinks, so I would have said that to mock them and to be sarcastic. THAT is what I think douglas did on this thread.
yea i get ya point looking at it from another prespective good call sharingan
No probs- I hope I'm right:)
Deffo sounds like sarcasm from Douglas

How did that fly over your head tez?
is this about care standards OR your personal feelings?
it must of had wings elvis 68 lol
Because I know what Douglas is like tez. He was taking the piz.
