256 Memory Module

I am thinking about buying a new laptop. I have seen a HP model which has 256 ram and a deal for free double your memory which is descrided as a 256mb memory module. Will this come pre-installed in the machine, If not how easy is it to install?

Laptop memory is easy to install. Most laptops have a bay cover underneath which when taken off reveals the memory modules. These can then be removed/added etc. Other laptops have a bay underneath as well as more slots under the keyboard, this however is much more rare.
