If it's a Samsung Galaxy (or similar) you have to slide the green icon from left to right across the screen - it's a pain to get right at first.

You can also program the phone so that pressing the central (physical) button at the bottom will answer a call.

What model Samsung do you have?
some answer buttons slide rather than push.

Slide across? Omg, didnt have a clue. Will get o/h to ring my phone now to test it out. many thanks x

I have Samsung galaxy
Mines a Galaxy Ace 2 and mine works as sunny-dave explains. Just put your finger on green icon and slide across to unlock phone and answer.
When the phone rings, you will see a green circle and a red circle. To answer, drag the green circle over the screen to answer. To reject, drag the red one.
If this is a hassle, you can also set it to use the home button at the bottom to answer calls. To set this up, go into phone (as if you were making a call) and bring up a menu by pressing the left hand corner button (next to the home button,) and select call settings from this pop up menu. Select Call answering/ending and select Answering Key. This will mean you press the home button to answer calls instead of swiping.
You can also set the power key to end calls here if this suits.

Another problem solved by you very helpfull abers x
It's such a pity Samsung didn't supply a user guide with it ;-)
I have a Samsung Galaxy S3 mini and have had a number of calls where I swipe on the green circle but it does nothing and I have missed the call.

In the end I changed my settings so that pressing the "home" button answers it. This is easy to change in the settings.

They've put it on line.
For weeks i didn't know that's how you answer these phones. I kept telling folk I couldn't get to my phone quick enough to answer it when they rang, in reality I'd no bloody idea how!
Sounds a poor design. Not untypical these days.
