Weird Disk Sewn Into Lining Of Coat ... What Is It?

I have a coat - made by Yiner.

there are 3 large buttons, but today i noticed that about the same distance down from the lowest button, there is a smaller disk, sewn into the lining.
it is about the same level as the top of the pockets - it looks like where they'd place another button, but didn't

it is not a spare button, as it is flat - and it is totally sealed in - the only way to get it out would be too cut that fabric or unpick the seam.
it did not have a button sewn there as there is no evidence of stitches nor is there a button hole.

it has a square of stitches holding it in place.

on the opposite side there is the same square of stitching - but no disk- it is just what appears to be a rough piece of plasticy stuff - stiff but also crumply, and it clicks ad crinkles when i press it.

neither appear to have any function

any ideas what they are are for?

thanks

I am a bored insomniac so tried finding out the answer for you. I got fed up as I kept ending up in pages in Chinese.

The other option is to go to Google images and see if there is a coat that looks like yours and see what information you can find out.

Failing that wait until morning when somebody will come along who actually knows the answer. It is amazing the amount of useless information is held in the brains of our fellow AB persons.

A couple of the coats that I looked at were nice - but I hate wearing a coat so there would be no point in me buying one. :-)

lol thanks wolf.

i kept getting 'genuine counter' coming up - which i thought may mean something like they sew it in to prove its a genuine one, but it'd be very easy to fake so i doubt that's it.
Yeah - the answer is there in Google-land but using the right words in the search is crucial.

Anyway boy cat has just knocked over something heavy and I am sure that we have woken up the folk downstairs. We will now toddle off to bed. His sister is 'helping' me type this - I am going to throttle her in a minute of two.

I hope that you get your answer. Once you set off to find something it becomes addictive.
It might be that these disks are weights placed so the garment hangs and loses any wrinkles.
Is the disc magnetic and it acts like a fourth button?
That's what I was thinking Vulcan, I would have thought if they were weights they'd be in the hem.
It's probably a Counterotatingimblesprocket which are often sewn into coats!
Oh sprayermick, you are so behind the times. They stopped doing those ages ago. Technology has made them redundant.

thanks all - i thought about the magnet thing, i tried it - but there isn't one in the other side... just a scrap of flimsy plastic.

it doesn't weigh anything either - feels like plastic and is on the front not the hem

It's probably an EAS ('electronic article surveillance') tag, which are quite often sewn into clothing:

thanks,

not sure its that chris - though the piece of crumply plastic bit could be i suppose ...but the other side is like a large thick tiddlywink, a little bit bigger than a penny.

i think i am going to have to CUT THE COAT!
haha
I thought tag too Chris, you're being followed Joko! yes you might have to cut the coat but just unpicked a few of the stitches and carefully slip it out. Be sure to let us kniw the answer won't you?

i have discovered the disk is magnetic - when my keys stuck to it - but as there isnt one on the other side, i can't see the point of it ...

i haven't cut the seam yet...
Hi

I suspect what you have is a security disc, something that would set off an alarm in store as you walked through it if not deactivated, quite a few manufacturers of expensive items have adopted this "hidden" technology...
