If so you will have a router (small box with flashing lights) connected to your telephone cable.
So you need to connect your laptop to this router.
You can do this one of two ways:
1) With a cable that plugs into your laptop one end and the router the other end (an ethernet cable)
2) Via wi fi (assuming your router is a wi fi router). To do this you need to know the "broadcast name" (or your router) and the password to log on to it.
Once you have do one or other of the above your laptop should then connect to the internet.
i have a dell and a toshiba laptop and both have a small switch on the side to turn the wifi on or off mine are both years old so i don't know whether this is still applies.
