Eternity Ring

Not sure where to put this and i think this may have been answered before but, when does an Eternity Ring get bought? Is it after dropping a sprog, 5 years of marriage?? any ideas? cheers guys

De Beers and the Diamond Promotion Service say that the first wedding anniversary is the right time. (I suppose it beats paper)

But yes others believe that the birth of the first child is an appropriate time.

When large amounts of small diamonds began to become available, mostly from Russia, de Beers had a marketing problem as to how they could sell them. They could get them cut cheaply enough mostly in India but needed an outlet.

Some broight spark came up with the idea of an eternity ring that would use these and could be sold to people to celebrate an engagement or something like that.

There's no real tradition of when and how because they're an artificial custom, so I guess whenever feels appropriate to you.

Personally I dislike de Beers with an absolute passion and I'd sooner spend money on a much more original piece, you'd get better value for money. But for some people it just *has* to be diamonds.

My fiancee bought me an eternity ring on our second anniversary of dating - before he even proposed! A bit back to front but it let him off proposing for another couple of years!!

I agree with Jake, DeBeers started it purely as a marketing campaign and, as such, has no sentimental value.  Rather like the recently, artificially created (not by DeBeers) father's day.
