Is It Just Me..?

I was reading this article about Prince George and his Godparents.

I noticed that Zara Tindall is to be a Godmother. She is also described as "wife of former England rugby player Mike Tindall".

Now, I know she is married to him, I remember the tales of the stag do. My slight issue is that she has now become his wife first and foremost. What happened to international sportswoman, or even part of the Royal family?

Is it just me that finds that a bit old fashioned? That a woman suddenly becomes known by her husband and his occupation? Doctor's wife, minister's wife, farmer's wife?

Should I just go lie down until this passes?

Yep, lie down, sp... :-)
It's the same rule of journalism that really p's me off about our local paper - no matter what stunning professional achievement or act of bravery you do, it'll always write "Jim, who has 6 grandchildren".... so what?!
Hmmm, it doesn't seem right at all. I may have to lie down too.
Maybe the journalist who wrote the article is a big rugby fan!!
Yes 2sp_, take to Ibuprofen and lie down in a darkened room for three hours, everything should be ok then !.
Some people might say that makes her more interesting.
I suppose it does say that she is William's cousin which suggests a royal connection. What baffles me is why it is necessary to have 7 Godparents!
It is old fashioned, and a little bit offensive. She outranks him surely? :)
"Maybe the journalist who wrote the article is a big rugby fan!!"

I wondered if that might be it?
The New Royals don't seem to be fussed about rankings, though, Ed - hence they are having ordinary people as godparents, not the usual raft of European kings etc which has happened in the past. They're just people (posh people, mind you).
Just looked at the article. Not a chin between them!
True, Boxtops.

I've just thought about your "6 grandchildren" "father of two" comment, and it does seem weird. Is it just filler do you think? Or is it done to "humanize" some kind of achievement beyond procreation? I know they do it to put the kiddies names in sometimes (for the parent's amusement).
Hang on 2sp, you didn't give the whole strapline. It says

"Zara Tindall, wife of former England rugby player Mike Tindall, is Prince William's cousin."

That is explaining why MT is in the picture (in case anyone didn't know)
We all need to be prepared for inclusion in the local paper. If I fall off the bus it won't read....Sixty three year old gran falls off bus......It will read.. Sixty three year old exotic dancer falls off bus....
Just for the hell of it and to annoy any still living nuns.....☺
surely, despite getting a quarter of an Olympic silver, she's only ever been known because of the people she's related to?
Actually, it could be a way of explaining "Tindall" instead of Zara Philips (which is the name I would associate with her)?
Yes, me too, Ed.

I actually first read the article on Teletex so there was no photo of her husband. I guess that's where I got my view of it being a bit old fashioned.

I think I'm just fed up being referred to as a Farmer's wife myself. I am just as capable round the farm as Mr P, in some areas I'm the expert and he's better in others.
Not just you sp, my aunt always addresses christmas cards and birthday cards to my husband but puts Mrs , like I'm his property or something
