£30 then is £700 now according to this

But the value of diamonds and gold can move independently of overall inflation
A lot depends on the quality of the diamond(s). It's not an easy question to answer I'm afraid
I'd recommend getting a proper jeweller's valuation. I had an engagement ring in 1970 which was worth in jewels more than the straight cash conversion between the different years

Thank you jno,Mojo-Jo-Jo and boxtops for your prompt and helpful answer.
Definitely get the objaaay appraised.

You may think that gold and diamonds appreciate at the same rate
BUT for diamonds fashion and price change

I bought at auction a diamond horseshoe which was almost on Antiques Roadshow with Geoffrey Mundy - and what was precisely matched in 1900 was different in 2005. Full of inclusions for a start...OK in 1900 and not OK a hundred years later.....
