Want to surprise my kids and buy them one to share. The thing is the only broadband I have is via a dongle. We have no landline...so how do they access it

You only use the iPad in "hotspots"...cafes, airports, hotel rooms.OR you arrange a contract with the provider which provides your dongle's broadband....that is providing your ipad has 3G as well.

One option would be to replace your dongle with a Mifi device something like this - it connnects with up to 7 devices...

..or you could buy an iPad with a micro sim - they are expensive though.

It will be asking for trouble. Far better to buy two cheaper tablets than one iPad.
The Mifi is a good solution.

I suppose I will give them a time slot. Then if that doesn't work I'll have to rethink or confiscate it. Cant afford 2 and it teaches them to share then when I have spare cash ill buy another.

You could get two decent tablets for the same price as one iPad'd cost.

An iPad is around £400. You could buy two Nexus 7 or 4 Tesco Hudls for that amount.

HC, I bought six - all for nieces and nephews. No complains as yet from any of them and they've had them for a while.

Does it have to be an iPad? Other options are much less expensive. I didn't go for an iPad because I like the Microsoft applications.

They keep asking for an ipad. I told them we can't afford one yet. They don't want the other tablets.

gingejbee - yes what the kids want they will get. There is no point buying them what they don't have any interest in. Anyway, that does not answer my question and has no relevance.
