The manual I saw on line does not mention the use of a double needle. Providing you have two bobbin holders and limit the zig-zag width so either needle does not go too far over the shoe holes, I don't see a problem. My old Elna came with a double needle and the adjustments I needed were no different to what I'm suggesting. Good luck.

Of course the sole-plate needs to have the space to accommodate the needles as well.
