My neighbour has just cut clean through our sky cable while pruning something in our garden. She hasn't said anything but that's another matter. We have full warranty but OH doesn't think it will cover this kind of damage. So is this cable just standard aerial cable, can it be 100% satisfactorily rejoined with an aerial connector without loss of quality?

Yes it can be rejoined. You will need 2 "f " connectors and a male back to back " f " connector and a small piece of self amalgamating tape to waterproof the join.

Any TV Aerial contractor would do the job.
Or go down to B & Q get the bits, probably less then a tenner, and DIY it's a nice simple joint to make and cheaper then calling a guy out to do it.

Thank you, that's reassuring. It's unbelievable how quiet the house is without telly!!
Just wanted to add that satellite cable should be of a much higher quality than ordinary TV co-ax.
I guess there are waterproof connectors available. As long as the inner signal cable is screened by the outer, there should be no problems with noise etc.

I'm just curious as to why your neighbour was pruning in your garden?

I was so het up that was an error Baldric. she was pruning her garden, ivy that was also draping over our fence.

Ah, ok, Ta!
Hopefully your lnb will be ok - if power to your box was off at the wall, it should be - if not..... there's always a chance that it and/or the box may be damaged, as you are not suposed to disconnect them when power is on!
