Have used my own custom made 'sound enhancer' my opinion is they are absolutely essential for listening to some of the american programmes, we thoroughly enjoyed the Jamaica Inn series, heard everything quite clearly. I don't know anything about the 'Bose' system but I imagine it is a similar idea I'd say "go for it"
If you are talking about a Bose Solo, in my opinion it is overpriced for what you get.
Thinner flat screen TVs have once again compromised TV sound output, at both bass and treble ends. Try experimenting with far cheaper small hi-do speakers, perhaps from somewhere like Richer Sounds. No need to spend hundreds.

Which? recently tested soundbars for improving TV sound. The best performer was Sonos Playbar at £600! but only just behind was the Yamaha YAS-93 at £179. The Bose Solo is £300 and had "poor, unfocussed sound"...so, to be avoided.
I bought the Yamaha from Richer sounds under £150 and it's a brilliant performer...and that's with a Samsung Smart TV. Well worth buying.
