they avoid tax (legal) not evade (illegal) and no it doesn't get my back up particularly
No...to be honest it doesn't. Many people not in the public eye use tax evasion schemes. The rules need to change so it's not legal. You can't blame people for trying to keep as much of their money as possible.

What is wrong in going to lavish parties? It's no individuals fault or responsibility for those who have to use food banks. Are rich people suppose to sit in eating bowls of tomato soup because there are poor people in the world?

We have a generous benefits system in the UK and if you go to work they still reward you with extra help if needed. Even if it only includes free dental care and prescriptions.
That's what I meant 'tax avoidance'
Yes, it does. The impression that modern politicians slither up the greasy pole only to feather their own nests grows stronger by the day.

Too much of the 'no-one was available for comment' rubbish from those who are supposed to serve on our behalf as well.
Anyone who has an ISA is in a tax avoidance scheme. It's down to the government to close tax loopholes - that's what we pay them for. It's a downright cheek to have a sloppy system and then blame someone for taking advantage of it.
It's also wrong to expect high earners, MPs or not, to not live a lifestyle they have earned.

You pay peanuts you get monkeys...simple.

So I take it, it's ok that the company's the likes of HSBC to go into Tax Avoidance Schemes & the same people go to their lavish parties & rub the salt in the wounds to persons using food banks, Oh well, that's life I take it.
Isn't anyone who can afford to go to lavish parties rubbing salt in the wounds?

Do you think a hard working person on the bread line would expect wealthier people to never take a holiday because they can't afford one?
It's highly questionable whether the highest income folk actually earn the vast amounts they get. More the case that the system allows them to extract more than can be morally justified. Maybe one day someone will come up with a better system and it'll actually be adopted. As for the privileged pontificating on what the rest of us should put up with, hardly hear that background rumbling these days. Been happening so long it's mentally filtered out.
Some of the people using food banks could be cheating ie, using the food bank when they don't need to. Isn't that worse than legally taking advantage of a way of paying less tax?

How do you feel about it TWR, and what do you think should be done about it?
I ask because it would be good for us to benefit from the opinion of a well informed political commentator.
They aren’t evading taxes and no, it doesn’t get my back up. And how are they parasites? They pay more tax than you do – and take far less from the system. Those who think they're 'entitled' to something for nothing are the parasites!

I must be reading the wrong paper Dam, where do I find " live in the real world news"
The kind of people that used this Swiss HSBC off-shoot, to launder money and avoid taxes are just greedy slimebags, no more and no less. They will always be around and its the various Authorities job to catch them and prevent it happening again. This isn't a Party-political rant, as it happens under all shades of Governments.

It will be interesting to see how Lyn Homer, the boss of HM Revenue & Customs will account for herself and her department when she is arraigned before the Commons Public Accounts Committee today :::

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-31394773

Judging by what happened yesterday, when the Financial Conduct Authority's (FCA) chief executive Martin Wheatley appeared before the Committee, we can expect another episode of the Three Monkeys act....they didn't see anything, they didn't hear anything and they didn't say anything.

Quis custodiet ipsos custodes ?
This isn't new though....and as you're complaining about the 'real world' and we're not....could it be that we are living in it.
It makes my blood boil when the CEO's of a lot of these companies award themselves pay rises of 28% and more, yet their employees only 1 or 2%. And Apple, who reportedly make £5 million per HOUR profit, BORROW money on the strength of their profits to purchase bonds etc to reward their shareholders in order to avoid tax. They pay no tax.
Question Author
Ummmm, read Pockets real world answer.
I'd take it on board if he/she was right. Apple may do tax avoiding but they do pay taxes.

Nothing in Pocket's post is illegal, if it was they would not get away with it, they are simply using the current regulations to get the best deal they can for their Companies and Shareholders.
TWR, it would be a very good idea for you to look for a newspaper that tells you what the real world is like. Regardless of legal tax arrangements employed by big companies, high earners pay far more into the government coffers than you do; they take very little, if anything, from the system, and they very often, as individuals, work hours that would make your eyes water, so what do you want? For them to give even more of the proceeds of their hard earned income to the lame ducks who think the world owes them a living?
