my fridge is at a temperature of 17 despite being on full. i have checked the door seal and apart from a tiny bit is sealing well. I think I may have pierced the wall when defrosting but i don't know - any one know what I can do?

you will have to buy a new one, sorry. but the coils holding the (freeon?(spelling)) have been pierced also. I done this myself. suggest selfdefrosting when you buy.

I struggled with a bad-tempered fridge for ages, sometimes worked, sometimes didn't. Budweiser at 17 is not good, also is food safe ?  I bought a new one eventually, they're quite cheap as white goods go, and they'll take the old one away.

It may simply be losing it's refridgerant gas.  The leak can sometimes be recitified and the refridgerant replaced.  Whether this is cost effective will depend on the age/cost of the fridge and also the cost of the repair.
