Periodically the following EC/HDMI1 underneath the word WIDE is shown.
I understand this nuisance can be removed using the remote.
Can anyone help me with this?

Which makes of TV set is it? (I'll take a guess at Panasonic!)

What (other than an aerial) have you got feeding a signal to it? (e.g. a Sky box, a DVD recorder or whatever)? If you've only got one device (or none at all), try disabling the automatic switching between devices. (That's what 'EC' means on a Panasonic set; it stands for 'External Control'). You'll need to hunt for it within the menu settings or, if you tell us the exact make & model, we might be able to find the instructions for you.

Thank you for your reply.Details as follows :-
Panasonic,Vista with Sky HD Box attached.This problem was solved previously by simultaneously pressing 3 buttons on the remote.I think they were TV,OFF and another I can't remember. Is this of any assistance to you?

I assume that you mean 'Viera', rather than 'Vista', which is the name given to a whole range of sets made by Panasonic. It might help to know the exact model number. (It will something like TX-50AS520B and should be on the back of the set).

I'm sorry,the make is Viera.At the age of 85 I am unable to access the serial Number.Lifting the TV is beyond my ability.In the meantime I appreciate your advice.

I've tried looking at the manual for a random Viera set but, regrettably, I'm still none the wiser.

I suggest phoning Panasonic's Customer Communications Centre tomorrow (between 9am and 5pm) on 0844 844 3899. They will (hopefully) be able to help.

Is it on the same sky channel or is it random?

I get that on mine occasionally - its the tv channel that does it - the tv is picking up a switching signal from the channel.

Can't remember which channel does it - it might be one of the Discovery ones.

I have a problem with my tv also. It is showing garbage programmes like "The Ark"!
