My chipboard loft hatch which opens down the way came crashing down the other night. After I had reassured myself that I was not in the middle of earthquake, I saw that it had come free from its one long hinge (a piano hinge?).
Amazingly there was no real damage and as the lock is still intact I think I could fix it myself. I only moved into this house a year ago and am surprised it has stayed up this long as the 8 screws in the hinge were very short. I would like to fill the holes where the old screws were and put it back up with 2 hinges and longer screws.
Can anyone please advise me what would be the best kind of filler for the job as there are so many different products around that I am stuck? I won't need a big tub as it is only a narrow edge but it needs to be strong enough to put screws into.
If you're looking for strength, this is a 2-pack (filler plus hardener)....... http://www.screwfix.com/p/ronseal-high-performance-wood-filler-natural-550g/51811 You don't get much strength in chipboard. I would suggest drilling out (enlarging) the holes in your new hinges, and fitting them with M6 bolts........
