Need With With A Transparent Png Over A Jpeg Background!

Hi

I have a logo which has been made for me as a png file. If I open this in Paint it is not visible, so I assume transparent.

What I am trying to do is layer this transparent logo over a basic jpeg background. I have been unable to do this in Paint and have tried various online paint/photo editi packages but cannot get the transparent logo layered over a jpeg.

Could anyone recommend how to achieve this or a package that will easily let you open a jpeg background then easily add the png file on top?

GIMP is as versatile as the full versions of Photoshop, so it should be able to do what you want easily enough. (It's a freebie):

Have you tried saving the png as a jpeg and then overlaying it?

You can definitely do this with Paint.Net, which is free.

I just tested it as follows:
After installation open the program
Click File/Open and open your jpeg
Click File/Open and open the png
Click the "rectangle select" tool button (top left) and select the whole png
Hit CTRL-C to copy
Click on your jpeg (open files are shown as thumbnails at the top)
Click Layers/Add New Layer (This will open a transparent layer by default)
HIT CTRL-V to paste the png on top of the jpeg
Drag the png to where you want it. Once happy click the green tick
Click Image/Flatten (to merge the two layers)
Click File/Save As and sev as a jpeg with a new name
