Security Light

We have a 500w halogen Floodlight Security light with PIR motion sensor fitted to back of house. We are having trouble in the fact that when it is switched on, it keeps coming on and going off constantly when there is nothing about and wondered if someone knew how to reset it.

Well, if it's typical, it should have three controls on the PIR. 1. Daylight sensitivity, which sets how dark it needs to be before the light activates at all 2. Well, if it's typical, it should have three controls on the PIR.
1. Daylight sensitivity, which sets how dark it needs to be before the light activates at all
2. Timing, which sets how long it will remain lighted after being activated
3. Sensitivity which sets how sensitive it is to movement.
No 3 is the one you need to adjust, by trial and error. Also chaning the orientation of the PIR is worth looking at. Mine gets set off by cats running along the top of the wall opposite, and until recently, nearby tree branches blowing in the wind (I chopped them off).

Our son in law came and reset it last night and it appeared ok for a while but soon was coming on and off at regular intervals all night so had no alternative but to switch it off . We dont have pets and there was nothing about so have concluded that the sensor/detector is faulty and will try for a replacement light.
